The Holy Cell of Mylopotamos is a part of Megisti Lavra Monastery and its history begins in 972, when it was created by Athanasios the Athonite in order to be used as an infirmary for the monks of the Monastery. The church is dedicated to Saint Efstathios.

The active monks of the Cell have achieved to revive the Holy Cell due to their hard work and their relentless struggles. Mylopotamos is particularly famous all over the world for the organic vineyards and the wine production. The unique land, the climate of the area, and the heavy, occasional rains, in combination with the organic diligence and care, guarantee the production of selective grapes, and, therefore, wine. Besides, the culinary of the area is specifically well known, proving the gifts of the Mediterranean diet, as cited by the Athonite monk Epifanios of Mylopotamos.
